LEGO DUPLO HANDWRITING MATS
Objective: Using this activity teachers will help students understand letters that are capital and lowercase, this activity will also introduce sight words, spelling, and practice handwriting skills
Materials: Duplo handwriting template (Teachers an format one of their own), legos (some big/small), sight word cards
Activity/Procedure: Each student should take a handwriting mat and some legos. Teachers can start student with a sight word first to get the hang of the concept. for ex: sight word (from) students will use the big legos to form the tall or capital letters and like in (f) the students will use the smaller legos for (r,o,m) to form the word from. Building the legos to the shapes of the sight words allows the students to write the letters.
Differentiate Options: I like that teachers can use lego's to apply to other phonemic awareness applications like spelling, word building, and syllable counting. The student can have fun as well as learn. Building this way maybe less frustrating
Assessment Options: Teachers can assess students one-on one or provide students with a simple graded wrtiting assignment to get a better understanding of the student that this sill based activity is working for and those students that it is not.
Age Span: Preschool- 1st grade
Justification of Choice: I would choose this activity as a great way for students to engage in building reading and writing skills.
